Aaron Rosenberg has always had a way with words.

When he was in third grade, he won a school-wide creative writing award, beating out even the fourth-graders. He still has the plaque. That was the first time he realized his writing could entertain people beyond his immediate family and friends, and he was hooked.

While getting his Master’s degree in English at the University of Kansas, Aaron and several friends decided to write their own role-playing game. They formed Epitaph Studios (“the last word in gaming!”) and published Periphery: Science Fiction Roleplaying on the Edge in 1993. The company fell apart a year or two later, but Aaron had already started writing games for other companies by then. He has since written over seventy roleplaying manuals and supplements, including work for Wizards of the Coast, White Wolf, Fantasy Flight Games, Green Ronin, Grey Ghost, Pinnacle, and many others. In 2003 he won an Origins Award for the revised Gamemastering Secrets, and in 2008 he won a Gold ENnie for his Warhammer supplement Lure of the Liche Lord.

Aaron hadn’t confined himself to roleplaying games, however. He’d started writing fiction for them as well, beginning with Highlander and James Bond short stories for Thunder Castle Games’ magazine Castle News. In 1998 he moved back to New York—his parents were from there but he had grown up primarily in New Orleans—and began working a variety of jobs, including Creative Director for a start-up animation studio, Submissions Reader for a large publishing house, and corporate graphics for a major insurance company. A few years later a friend mentioned a new Star Trek book line he thought Aaron might like. That was the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, and Aaron’s first SCE novel, The Riddled Post, came out in 2001. He went on to write four more, including the two-parter Creative Couplings with Glenn Hauman, and won a PsiPhi Award in 2003 for the first half of his story Collective Hindsight.

After Star Trek Aaron moved on to writing novels for other licensed properties. He has done books for Exalted, Warhammer, StarCraft, WarCraft, and Eureka. In 2002 he wrote his first children’s book, based on the cartoon series PowerPuff Girls, and in the years since he has done many more children’s books and young adult books, including stories for Transformers Animated, iCarly, and Chaotic. His first junior novel, Bandslam, won a Scribe Award in 2010, and his Alpha and Omega junior novel was nominated for the same award a year later.

Aaron has also worked in educational books. He has written on a variety of topics, from the Bermuda Triangle to biographies of famous figures to the Civil War.

In 2011 Aaron released his first original novel. The space-opera The Birth of the Dread Remora is the first book in the Scattered Earth series, which Aaron created with Stoker-winner David Niall Wilson and fellow Scribe winner Steve Savile. The same year saw the first two books in his original middle-grade series Pete and Penny’s Pizza Puzzles, the first of which was a Scholastic Bestseller. Right behind those came No Small Bills, the first book in Aaron’s SF comedy series the Adventures of DuckBob Spinowitz.

Aaron is a founding member of the author collective Crazy 8 Press. He is also the co-creator of the ReDeus series.
